About the Book

About God's Existence and Other Philosophical Essays:

Dr. Paul Gerard Horrigan (Ph.D., Santa Croce, Rome, 2000) retains that the root cause of the theoretical atheist world-view of contemporary society lies in a particular type of epistemological position called "immanentism", which has as its founder the rationalist René Descartes. When the immanentist position is adopted the obfuscation and eventual discarding of metaphysics becomes inevitable. Once metaphysics is eliminated, access to a rational effect to cause demonstration of God's existence is impeded and one either falls into agnosticism or takes one step further and subscribes to the atheist position that God is merely a projection of man's essence, a mere idea that in no way corresponds to a real, extra-mental, transcendent Deity. Horrigan shows that the solution to the problem of immanentism (which severs our access to God, objective truth and objective morality) lies in a vigorous philosophical realism open to both gnoseological and ontological transcendence. Can the existence of God be demonstrated? Dr. Horrigan says Yes! and presents various compelling proofs that do so.
