After an unexpected layoff from his position as the sole remaining staff reporter/editor in New England for United Press International, author David D. Haskell and his wife, Ethel M. Haskell, a retired nursing assistant and two-time cancer survivor, decide to make the trip of a lifetime.

Both over sixty-five years old and with no deadlines to meet, the Haskells spend two months driving around the United States. Along the way, they take in many magnificent sights and visit friends and relatives, camping in a tent when convenient. From the largest and most beautiful trees in the world at Redwood National Park in California to the Long Branch Saloon in Dodge City, Kansas, the Haskells' two-month adventure is filled with Americana.

Told in the form of a daily journal, Roundabout the USA: 60 Days in a Car recounts the engaging true story of the Haskells' thirteen-thousand-mile trip around the United States.

About the Author

David D. Haskell covered every major news event in New England for more than four decades as an editor and reporter for United Press International.
Ethel M. Haskell worked with cancer patients as a certified nursing assistant at Malden Hospital until forced into premature retirement by her own battles with cancer.
