When Renee is sent to spend the summer holidays with her Great Aunt Bella at Stirling Manor, she learns very quickly that it is no ordinary house. Things that move by themselves, music that drifts from an ancient piano, and glimpses of a phantom girl about her own age all leave Renee curiously excited.

But all is not well at Stirling Manor. Aunt Hannah, part owner of the house, is trying to force Aunt Bella to sell. Renee realizes that if the house is sold, it is very probable she will never see the ghostly girl again.
