The poems are a lover's complaint towards capricious love and inconsistent fate. The scholastic manner in the composition of the poems is very obliging. The author's years of study had taught him a great deal. The breath of Elizabethan times haunts the sonnets as its dust catches still every cloth he wears and every idea he bears.

Wisam Khalid is at present pushed further from writing poetry by his unfailing interest in studying Literature itself. On the critical scale, he takes the side of the Romantic School of Criticism. Overall, poetry to him "is a beautiful woman, if you do not get confused at first sight, you might not be interested to dig deeper."

About the Author

A native of Baghdad, Wisam Khalid?s contact with English as student and teacher encouraged him to write poetry. His Master thesis, Shelley?s Mythical Stages, and his PhD dissertation, The Restoration Court Poets: Monarchists or Anarchists, are under publication. Currently, he is finalizing his book project A Preface to Colonial American Poetry.
