About the Book

Dick Leonard has been a liberal minister in the New York City area for fifty-four years. His ministry has included civil rights promotion, music, and the development of schools and camps. He has also found time to visit many countries with his wife, Polly, and to marry more than 3,000 couples in those years.

In Ports of Call he has collected eleven of his sermons and seven other writings, all composed during his twenty-four years at the All Souls Church. The piece The Day the Russians Went Home, by the Reverend Bruce Clear, completes the story of the visit to the U.S. in 1990 by twelve Russian young people and their two adult chaperones. Dick describes his day of involvement with the Russians as "the day I will remember after I have forgotten all the others."

About the Author

Richard Leonard is Minister Emeritus of the All Souls Church of New York, having also served the Community Church of New York for eleven years and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1965. His first book is entitled Call to Selma: Eighteen Days of Witness.
