Nobody believes that Sherrie Hitchcock has the courage to quit a successful business career and join the Peace Corps. She says goodbye to her wealthy boyfriend, Carlton O'Connor, and moves to Iran. While living near the Caspian Sea, she encounters many Iranians who welcome her into their hearts and homes.

Can Sherrie translate her idealistic dreams into reality while coping with a society that is replete with contradictions? Her friend, Bill Waters, tries to help her overcome her culture shock. He hesitates to become too involved, however, because he knows that SAVAK, the dreaded secret police, has identified him as a foreign troublemaker.

One volunteer must flee from her village when a local mullah preaches that the Americans are really Christian missionaries, not secular teachers.

What will happen to Sherrie when she, too, confronts the powerful forces of a conservative Moslem society?

About the Author

Jennifer B-C Seaver, a former university international educator, returned to Iran in 2002. She likes to hike, backpack, and travel with her husband, Paul. When they are not exploring the world, they make their home in West Chester, PA. This is her first major publication.
