About the Book

Written after 9/11, police officer and poet J. B. Conway's first collection of poetry is an impressive display of thought and emotion. Themes of loss, despair, and the rigors of modern civilization are offset by images of love, joy, and Nature. The themes, like the juxtaposed words themselves, portray a loss of innocence, while still giving hope through the eternal constant of love. From the title poem, a musing on the loss of Kurt Cobain, to "Cracked Prodigy Mask," Conway's rare position as both law officer and poet allows him to see society through a different Generation-X perception. His embattled poems have Nature fighting society, technology versus innocence in a way that is both happy yet disturbing.
