In The Dark Days of October, Floyd F. Clark vividly recounts with candor and compassion some of the most painful memories that have left their indelible mark on his life.

From those poverty-ridden, childhood days of the Depression, he carries his reader through the struggles of a teenager trying to obtain a quality education in pursuit of his dream-to become a writer or teacher; and, of the personal pleasures forfeited in adulthood as he struggles to cope with the declining health of both parents.

At times he feels cursed as each somber episode seems linked in some mysterious and reoccurring fashion to the tenth month of the year.

In recalling these agonizing periods of his personal life, Clark sprinkles each with just enough inbred grace and charm to keep the reader's attention in this fast moving, intimate story of a tormented soul-strengthened only by an unyielding faith toward a brighter tomorrow.
