All too often in our great nation's history there seems to be some sort of a separation between the great expectations of the American Education system, the greatness of our masses, and the awesomeness of the Department of Defense. Some have said, "No American Educator wants a solder, sailor or airman telling them how to teach in the average American classroom."

About the Author

Brent M. Barry is a certified third-generation Texas educator from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Southwest Texas State University (Southwest Texas State Teachers College) is President Lyndon Baines Johnson?s alma mater. Brent Barry?s traditional values have drawn him into service within the United States Air Force, United States Naval Reserves, as well as the United States Army. Currently, Mr. Barry is an Aerospace Educator in the Civil Air Patrol, the Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. ?Learning benefits justice.?

Mr. Barry was selected as a ?Troops to Teachers? candidate on October 22, 1995. The ?Troops to Teachers? program is part of the Department of Defense Teacher and Teacher?s Aide Placement Assistance Program. The ?Troops to Teachers? program is part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which was signed by President Lyndon Baines Johnson at his alma mater on the grounds of what is now Southwest Texas State University.
