About the Author

Birdie L. Gates-Hill was born in Luther, Oklahoma in 1922 to Waymon and Roxie Gates. An accomplished pianist, she received a B.A. degree from USC and taught music 23 years in the Compton Unified School District. Married 46 years to Mr. Sammie L. Hill she resides in Los Angeles with her three children.
