Carved out of a star and tossed
into the worlds of matter
it mourns in silence, until found
by the master musician.
Her lips to the mouthpiece
she plays with the feeling of a twin
who feels the notes and chords
of her sibling.
She blows and becomes
the singer of loss and despair
of torn roots and exile
to an empty cold void.
the realm of matter and time past the solar winds of astral suns
to the outer fringes of invisible worlds.
There, where opposites join
where static-mind gives rise to motion
where motion gives life to cause and effect
and the mournful weeping of the Crystal Flute
is the mantra back home.
The song of returning
the mystical wailing of longing
that cuts too deep to ignore
It slashes and burns and scathes
until nothing is left but quiet abiding
and the awakened mind.

About the Book
Each shade of light is the shimmering of Eternity. It is the Uncreated created in the story line of our lives. By chapter and verse, we write ourselves into time, energy, and matter, fluctuating between luminous and faint, sublime and spiritless, civilized and primitive—until we sense that we are only space.
And that is when our real story begins.
About the Author
Carl Hitchens is a poet, story teller, and essayist. Previously, he published Sitting with Warrior (iUniverse, Dec. 2010), and was a contributing author in Meditations on Divine Names (Moonrise Press, 2012) with his poem, Breath of Fire. He attended Hampton Institute and Dillard University, and is a Marine Corps veteran. His home is Prescott, Arizona.
