Why You Should Create an Amazon Author Page

Amazon is a premium destination for books online, but it is so big that it can be difficult for authors to get noticed. You and your book have a slim chance of getting seen by browsers unless you are already famous or have a lot of reviews and purchases. An Amazon author page helps authors make themselves easier to discover.

To create your own Amazon author page, sign up at the Amazon Author Central home page. From there, your account works like most other forms of social media:

  • Photos– You can upload as many photos as you like, but a head shot should be first. This will help readers connect with you as a person, and put a face to your book.
  • Personal Bio–Tell readers what you want them to know about you. You could tell them about your passion for writing or, a life event that inspired your work or simply share your general background.
  • Books–Upload all of your books that are available on Amazon. Your Kindle books automatically connect to your uploaded books if you used the same publisher. If not, add those, too.
  • Videos – You can upload one video at a time. This is a good place to share a book trailer, author video or book signing video.
  • Blogs – Plug in the link to your blogs. Your RSS feeds are key for keeping in touch with readers and potential readers. You can also link to your other social media accounts, such as Twitter and Facebook.
  • Events – Post links to signings and events you’re hosting, and don’t forget to remove them when the events have ended. An updated page is more inviting than one that looks like it’s maintained infrequently.

Once you’ve created your author page, Amazon will include a link to your profile on all of your book pages. You can join the Search Inside!™ program and become an Amazon Associate through the links at the end of your Author Central home page.

Your Amazon author page contains everything that you want readers to see and know about you and it lets you keep them up to date on your current happenings.
