A car passes the teenage girl who is in a race against certain death. Mina waves her hands at the driver and shouts for help, but the driver knows her kind and fears to stop and give a lift to the budding young woman with piercings over her eyelids and through her nose. Nothing good can come from picking up the unwanted hitchhiker. The woman behind the wheel of the car looks the other way as she passes Mina, her conscience clear. A smoker since she was ten, her unfortunate choice of vices takes its toll on her lungs. In the middle of the street now with the rain falling heavier than before, the teenage girl shuffles her feet and makes a tight circle surveying everything around her. The screams have stopped. Other than the rain careening off the pavement, she hears nothing. It is the silence that she fears even more than the screams of the creature from the graveyard. In silence there is death. One is never far from the other. After another quick prayer in which she promises her undying fealty to a higher power, Mina begins to walk. She walks fast. She is too far from home. Keeping her right foot raised, she does not take her next step. Staring down at the pavement, eyeing her untied bootlace and the carpet of black beneath it, she thinks she’s heard something. Please let me be hearing things.

Unfortunately for every vampire they destroy, two take its place. As their crusade to end the threat becomes increasingly impossible, their chance to succeed begins slipping through their fingers. With only one option left, the teens make a bold and dangerous decision that will either lead them to salvation or eternal damnation. In this exciting horror tale, three teens take it upon themselves to find and destroy a vampire or die trying as the future of their Rhode Island town hangs in the balance.
About the Author
R. Wayne Emerson is a police officer from Central Florida, where he makes his home with his wife and two children. When he is not writing, he spends his free time chasing snakes through the woods, playing with his dogs, and relaxing by his backyard pool. Emerson, a self-professed supernatural aficionado, is the author of the novels, Jersey Devil and Fear the Reaper.
