About the Book

Mickey G was my friend. This is a story about his father. Mickey grew up without his father, and he was in his late 50s before he learned what happened to his father and why his father never returned home. I feel very lucky that my life and Mickey’s crossed paths.

About the Author

Alan Neil was born and raised in East Texas. Both sides of his families came to America during the 1640’s. One side came from Scotland via Northern Ireland and the other from France via England. His grandfather’s and father’s farm bordered a Wildlife management area and a national forest. Both sides came first to Carolinas and eventually to Texas. The two sides both fought in the American Revolution war. The first born son on one side married a Cherokee Indian and shortly after the marriage the family started moving west. As generations passed both sides of the family had a large percentage of American Indian blood but they retained a heritage to their family name. All the men who could serve fought in every war that America had and they were all proud soldiers. Courage and bravery were words they lived by and freedoms were something they all fought for and enjoyed. You could put the word “Patriot” on all their graves. Alan Neil came home from Viet Nam to an unwelcoming society and he was offended so He hid in his education and work until he mastered both. He spent 27 years working overseas as an Expatriate. His work experience would carry him to many foreign lands. He didn’t just travel; he lived and worked in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Russia. The Far East was his refuge from work. He flew around the earth four times a year for 27 years but 100 days away from his Texas and family was his limit. It was a good trip.
