Just before the "official" calendar advent of autumn, the leaves began their annual transformation of color. This is a typical occurrence of the season's change; it's nothing new. But for some reason, the majesty of it all really struck me this year as I drove the quiet road which leads to our home. The township-appointed trees were so very stunning in their varying shades of gold, celadon, burnt orange, crimson, and sienna, situated among a few evergreens. I focused keenly on these colors, recalling the uniformed greens they were clothed in only weeks earlier. Each leaf had been summoned by God to change their garment to welcome and embrace a fresh season. I found myself bedazzled by the unsurpassed beauty of this foliage. Suddenly, I segued into a posture of worship as I recognized the handiwork of the Divine Painter of this mesmerizing landscape. What came to me was the old hymn, How Great Thou Art.

About the Author
Phyllis Hilliard earned a Masters degree in Practical Theology from Regent University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in English from Rutgers University. Phyllis is the author of three other published books: What Does a Pastor Do?, Manhood Boot Camp, and The Voice of the Mrs. She has served as First Lady and as a Staff Pastor in her local church, alongside her husband, Bishop Donald Hilliard, for thirty-five years. They are the proud parents of three adult daughters, a son-in-law, and a very charming grandson.
