About the Book

About the Author

From 1971 through 2000, author Duane Wiltse lived and guided summer horse pack trips and hunters from his three wilderness tent camps in the mountains along the east boundary of Yellowstone Park. During that time, Wiltse wrote articles for Grey’s Sporting Journal, Safari Magazine, and North American Hunter, also co-authoring two books – All About Elk and Guides’ Tales of Adventure. In 2005, his true story, “Gittin’ Western”, was published by iUniverse Inc. The book has been well-received by critics and readers alike, awarded the Editor’s Choice and Star designations. An excerpt from Western Horseman magazine review is typical of many others: “And, no, Gittin’ Western isn’t always a pleasant read. Life in the backcountry is never as kind as it might be to man or beast. But, Gittin’ Western is a genuine account. It would make a great action adventure movie.” Wolf depredation drove Wiltse out of his beloved Wyoming high country and to Bozeman, Montana in 2000. There he did voice-over radio commercials and TV ads for local businesses, wrote Gittin Western, Legacy and lives with his wife Jan on their small horse ranch.
