About the Book

Dedicated to two characters of the early Christian days, The Power of Peter, the Fisherman, and Mary, the Magdalene, by author Dr. James O. Pellicer, offers an exploration of the historical evidence accounting for the apostle Peter’s figurative rise to power and Mary Magdalene’s concomitant castigation. Divided into two parts, it covers the definition of power and the outreach of such a power—the power of Peter. Part two addresses the character and personality of Mary Magdalene, whom Peter declared “insane” in reference to the resurrection of the Lord. Pellicer supports this study through an inquiry into all four canonical gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles of Paul, the Catholic Epistles, and the Apocalypses, as well as ancient gospels and testimonies of early Christian writers. The Power of Peter, the Fisherman, and Mary, the Magdalene presents an extended biography and historical inquiry of the power that claims a human being who declares himself the sole representative of Jesus Christ on earth and the heir of Peter and calls himself Pontifex Maximus. At the same time, it considers the importance of Mary Magdalene, as well as all women, from the point of view of Jesus Christ.
