About the Author

Candis Dover is a recovering addict who has been in a constant battle with the Disease of Addiction for 28 years of her life.

Writing poetry since age 12, she began taking her writings seriously at age 16 after one of her High School English Teacher’s ignited her passion for the world of literature and Creative Writing.

Born in Inkster, Michigan in the mid 1960’s, Candis was sheltered for most of her childhood until the untimely death of her beloved father at the family’s home at age 17. Traumatized and broken, she turned to the streets for solace and when the crack epidemic set the streets of Detroit on fire in the 1980’s, Candis was burned right along with it.

Becoming a victim of domestic violence during a 10 year marriage further traumatized her. Eventually she abandoned the marriage with 3 children, an began a new life, only to be struck down by 3 cars as the result of a drunk driver, rendering her physically disabled. Chronic Pain issues and becoming unemployed spiraled her deeper into a life of crime and addiction, then opioid abuse, and eventually homelessness.

She began keeping a journal of poetry which in turn helped to save her life.

After being drugged, robbed, and involved in a drug raid, Candis left Michigan and re-located to Seattle, Washington where she is currently maintaining her sobriety through her writings, service work for persons battling substance abuse, the love of her family, and a relationship with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She has been born again with purpose, and a renewed passion for life, she is finally free!
