When we were little we had many toys to build things with. We had Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs and modeling clay. And we had clever little things called Krazy Ikes, little plastic bodies with little knobs to attach heads and arms and legs in the proper places. The pieces were different colors so you could get many different effects. One particular time we had a marvelous landscape laid out on the dining room table, houses with the Lincoln Logs and fences with the Tinker Toys, a little blue pond with the clay, and a wonderful windmill with the Tinker Toys, complete with a wheel to turn on the top. We made people and animals with the Krazy Ikes and the clay, and had a good time playing for several days, making the big folk eat at the kitchen table.

About the Author
Lois Lower, mother of seven grown children who carry on the family tradition of walking picket fences and rescuing lambs from the outhouse, was raised in southern Idaho during the Great Depression.
When she got big enough she graduated from high school and, still adventurous, attended the University of Idaho where she majored in journalism and joined the college rodeo club. Then she, and the children,\ followed her engineer husband across the United States, from Milwaukee to Houston, Boston to Salt Lake City and back to Idaho.
