Awakening slowly from their stupor the two victims continued on their journey. Like two drunks still in a haze, they managed to stand and somehow begin walking although their senses were far from being fully revovered. Also like drunks, they were left with no memories of the events that had transpired. They did not remember the tingling sensation precursing the numbness that had overtaken them as the signals going through the synapses of their brains had been slowly scrambled. They did not remember the fog and blinding white light -- the optical illusions caused by the misfires in their optic nerves as the scrambler began to do its work. They did not remember the feeling of helpless floating. Nor did they remember becoming so light headed that they fell unconscious to the ground. They would never remember the biopsies or the trouble they had getting up and walking. Instead they were left only with vague impressions of fear and confusion. It was something neither man talked about. With no specific memories, each attributed his apprehension to his fear of the darkening forest. The event had become a dream, forgotten upon awakening.

About the Book
For all those aboard the USS Cutty Sark, their mission is routine. While the crew interprets new sensor data amid the boredom of deep space, their captain directs their mineralogical survey ship into a standardized polar orbit. But everything changes when they see Galton III in the viewfinder, a seemingly unremarkable Earth-like planet that appears to have undergone a mysterious demise.
Without robot ships capable of a two-way trip to the planet’s surface, the crew decides to take a small team down in a lander. But just as the vehicle enters the planet’s upper stratosphere, something goes terribly wrong, forcing the team to land off course and leaving them with no way to communicate with their ship. Now as the crew aboard the spaceship feverishly works on a rescue plan, the team on the ground must determine how to survive in an unfamiliar environment.
Cardinal Rule is a story of endurance, determination, and perseverance as a team of scientists becomes embroiled in a battle that pits their physical needs against the needs of their souls after they crash land on a strange planet.

W. Greg Henley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History at Ohio University and a Juris Doctor degree at Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law. His diverse career includes roles as a commercial banker and attorney. Greg lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
