This book is written, if you will, as a ‘rant’, or being more positive, an exercise in critical thinking designed to point out what is wrong, and needs fixing with the world and modern society. The solutions should be self evident from the issues, so I will not waste anyone’s time in attempting to provide solutions, other than in a very general way at the end. Basically, I think the world has gone crazy; to use the vernacular, ‘fucked up’. I am afraid we are all in a ‘self-destruct’ mode, with little if any light at the end of the tunnel. Again, call me a pessimist; some folks, however, think I am funny, but I like to think of myself as a realist. For some people, what I say may be difficult to accept, and perhaps depressing; to others it may in some cases be ironically humorous with a loud ring of truth. Either way it is intended to be food for reflection.
Those of you out there, who are psychologists, probably have already figured out what I am about, and have concluded I am perhaps a very negative type of person, likely to depress others. I can only respond by stating that I believe ‘others’ can only depress themselves by what they think and do (or don’t do), and in particular, do not understand what is really going on. Perhaps it is a condition around having a difficulty with accepting ‘what is’. For myself, I can only respond by stating that my readers will hopefully see what I see about ‘what is’, while going through the journey this book provides. In my own defense, I can only say that if I really am as negative as some may think, I probably would have taken the ‘easy way out’ long before now. In fact, I think I am very positive, not only indicated by my staying-power and my willingness to confront a fucked-up world, but also this attempt to point out my observations of the world in hope that others will agree with me, and perhaps be motivated to do their part in doing something about the conditions I describe. Perhaps they will even do something around themselves on a personal level, to help make things work a little better for themselves and everyone else. Let’s be honest, most people do what they do for one, or all, of three things: power, prestige, and wealth. Why can we not stop pretending everything is okay and will work-out. Maybe it will, but work-out to what and for whom?
