The culture of reliability is one of the key aspects of allowing your organization to perform at levels that you have never thought possible. Reliability is the answer for many of the problems that are plaguing your organization today. If, customer loyalty, employee satisfaction, brand security and recognition and profitability, to name a few, are issues that hold back your organization, or even you individually then starting the journey toward the creation of a Culture of LeadeReliability will positively impact every one of the issues that hold you back. So what is reliability and why it, rather than some other initiative that can address the list above or any other issue plaguing your organization. That is it, reliability is not an initiative but becomes how you do everything that you do. The word initiative by definition means: The power or ability to begin or to follow through energetically with a plan or task; determination of a beginning or introductory step; and an opening move. So this is where reliability separates itself from the word initiative. A first move or something you start to resolve an issue, is not my definition of reliability. Start implies there is a finish. Begin suggests that something else will follow. Reliability is different. The fundamental premise is that reliability is not what you do, but how you do everything. Also the journey toward reliability is never ending and always improving. So although there is a start of the journey, that is just the beginning and does not at all define what reliability is. Reliability is the how and never the what that you do. It is not the start of anything or the beginning of something but the complete change of how you do everything that you do. It is the way you become. If you are in an organization then not just you but your entire organization changes how they do everything. Regardless of what change you are looking for, if you want to do something differently or you want to drive an organization to change what it does, it first it starts with you. Leadership books talk about what it takes to become a leader, but they never really talk about what it is that you are leading? Leadership is an important part of reliability, in fact so important that it requires every member of the organization to become one and without it you will never get there. The two are so completely intertwined that is why it truly is LeadeReliability. Much of what you will read in this book has been influenced by various leadership books that I have read. Searching all of them for what made the individual different from others or the conceptual idea I could use in my own personal leadership journey to change how I did everything.

Jeff Dudley earned a degree in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He is the president and founder of LeadeReliability. He spent thirty-two years in leadership positions in the manufacturing sector, most recently as a director for the Dow Chemical Company.
