Launching into the main theme of middle eastern legends the secondary topic of glaciation may seem a little strange to some. Geologists will immediately twig, “It’s the melt-water, not the ice,” and they would be correct to a certain extent, but glaciation has so many subsidiary nuances that we must stop a bit along the way to consider the profound implications of that little quirk in the weather. The repercussions due to the retreat of the glaciers will be fingered in the Geology chapter as the primal mechanism for world flooding. The tales of the middle east are so intimately bound up with this world event that we should attempt to feel comfortable and accept what a meaningful mechanism such as a global event like glaciation has been in our ascension to world supremacy.
There are basically four items for consideration:
How it all came about (some history of the earth) What impact it had on our distant ancestors (evolution) How the “great melt” created persistent legends (anthropology and religion) “It ain’t over yet” (global warming and the flip of the conveyor)
The Pleistocene and subsequent glaciations have been going on for some 2.5 million years. Glaciation waxes and wanes, but it never goes away, and it spans the period of much of human evolution, from a funny looking little ape to the classy persona that we see today. The relationship seems to many to be something more than accidental, but perhaps it is not.

About the Book
In Cataclysm, author Nick Gass takes geology out of the oil patch to authenticate the first twenty-five verses of the Bible. He presents a multidisciplinary exploration, implementing scientific reasoning, to explain some of the ancient history of The Middle East.

About the Author
Nick Gass earned a master’s degree in geology; he is a retired teacher with career stops as a fisherman, RCAF pilot, and geological consultant. After retirement, he found time to live in British Columbia and Mexico. Gass now resides in Calgary, Alberta, and has four daughters.
