I picked the phone back up minutes later and called my friend Tina who is a nurse practitioner. A nurse practitioner who just happens to work closely with Dr. D. I told her I had breast cancer and that I didn’t know what to do. She told me I would be alright and she would be with me every step of the way. Just hearing her voice made me feel better. I was not sure if I believed her, but I did feel better momentarily. I tried to continue working but it was impossible, so I headed home. On the way, I called my husband, Brian. There was an uncomfortable silence on the other end. He finally spoke and shared his thoughts that he had convinced himself all would be fine with me. He was shocked but assured me we would get through it. Again, hearing his voice made me feel better but I still was not convinced I would be okay.

About the Book
A diagnosis of breast cancer can be devastating….any diagnosis of cancer can be devastating. It is difficult to accept that fact that none of us are immune to cancer…and cancer does not discriminate. This author shares her story as a woman, mother, friend, nurse, and educator. Her story is shared in efforts to help others victims and their loved ones facing similar challenges. Intimate details are shared with the reader including suggestions for coping. She often uses humor as a supportive tool in her journey. The reader journeys through diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiation and recovery. The story is shared in a unique format of emails sent out to a caring group of individuals throughout the year she “lived” with cancer. Sharing her story is her way of “paying it forward” to those who shared with her along the journey.
About the Author
Judy Fredette, currently a nurse educator/practitioner, has a Masters Degree in Nursing from University of Massachusetts Lowell and has taken courses toward earning a PhD in Nursing. She and her husband, Brian, have three daughters and three granddaughters and live in Winchendon, Massachusetts. This is her first published work, her personal story of breast cancer survival, shared with others in similar situations to give hope, motivation and inspiration.
