Morning eased into the cottage through the small windows that faced the forest. Eibhlín was up as full daylight came on, urged on by the songs of the woodland birds. She laid several sods of turf on the glowing coals in the grate, and allowed her eyes to rest upon the small figure across the tiny room on the bed. He lay in exactly the same position she had put him in the night before. It appeared that he had not stirred; although his eyes were closed instead of set in that terrible empty stare. Eibhlín moved about as quietly as she could, taking Andrew’s few belongings from the bundle, folding them and putting them on a small shelf next to where he slept. She gathered eggs and black pudding to prepare his breakfast. Her cottage was always stocked with extra food, in the event that she might need to take a meal to a neighbor or a patient. On the way back the night before, she had assumed that a growing boy would have a huge appetite. However, this morning she wondered if he would ever eat again. As she worked, she glanced in Andrew’s direction, and was surprised to see he had turned on his side and was watching her intently.

About the Book
When eight-year-old Andrew Finnegan’s family is murdered in their home in Derry City of Northern Ireland in 1958, Aunt Eibhlín brings him home to live with her. While growing up in her Bureen Woods home, Andrew and his aunt form a special and lasting bond—the ability to communicate telepathically.
Now, decades later, Andrew has failed to reach his aunt through their mental communication. He fears that she may be in danger. With his wife, Colleen, and their great-niece Aisling, Andrew leaves his beloved Big Horn Mountains in
Montana and travels to Ireland to search for his aunt. Through this journey, he retraces the steps of his own history.
During this mystical and dangerous mission of discovery, their path is illuminated with the help of Crow Indian medicine men, Irish travelers, a priest, and several other unlikely guides. Clues from Andrew’s life and the exploits of the mysterious MacCumhaill prove vital to the quest to find Aunt Eibhlín. But Andrew is not the only one searching for his aunt, and the past and present suddenly collide and put the group in great peril.
About the Author
Lorretta Lynde is a fourth-generation Montanan, raised on a ranch on the Crow Indian Reservation where her Irish great-grandparents arrived as they followed the railroads west. She is retired from a thirty-year career in the newspaper business, and she and her husband travel frequently to Ireland. There are now five books in the Magpie Odyssey series.
