SHIRLEY FRIEDENTHAL could have inspired the song, “Matchmaker, Matchmaker.” For 27 years, in her late husband’s internal medicine practice, she counseled patients with sexual, marital, and assorted other family problems, occasionally matchmaking on the side. She strengthened her skills with courses in human sexuality, group therapy, and psychology at The New School and New York University, and studied Rational Therapy with Albert Ellis. “That was all about making people happier,” Shirley explains. “So is this book.”

HOWARD EISENBERG has written for TV, radio, national magazines, and the theatre. Six previous books include two best-sellers – “How to be Your Own Doctor (Sometimes)” and “The Recovery Book” – as well as a college health textbook, and, most recently, the baseball memoir, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Cooperstown.” Why is he so sure that it’s never too late to date? He and Shirley met on a dating web site five years ago, and they’ve been OO’s (One and Only’s) ever since.
