Repressed roots I suppose I’m scared to bloom because I’ve been burned before and it’s easier to rebuild foundations that flowers. I suppose I’m soft as a flower so delicate that I forget I am also blades of grass licking your legs just as easily slice your legs with thorns under the surface. I suppose the ways I look and seem are only as deep as shallow, as skin, surface. I suppose if you dig deep you will find roots and relics and lessons to be learned over and over, until the war is over.

About the Book
Becoming to Being is a series of poems and accompanying illustrations that show the raw and rough side of teenage life living in a small-town suburbia and the subsequent spiritual journey. Through trauma, tragedy, and tough luck, we find gratitude, greatness, and the goodness of all. She exemplifies the empowerment of pain and emphasizes that through the greatest grief, we will find our greatest selves. Come on a journey of chaos and crying to find the future flowering on the other side. Learn about the love of everything in life even if it is not, by our definition, what we call love.
About the Author
Sofy Brinister, a Massachusetts based multimedia artist, has bold dreams to bring all things art into the realm of everyday reality. She has creative experience from photography, to drawing and painting, to printmaking, and of course writing, for upwards of six years. To her, creativity and the everyday go hand in hand, and embracing everything unique and strange has been the only way to truly stay sane. In her poetry book "Becoming to Being" she recounts her history of traumas and mental illness and the realizations that ultimately led to her recovery.
