About the Author

Margaret R. O'Leary, M.D. grew up in northern California and is the author of a dozen books. She is an emergency medicine physician who holds degrees in religion , zoology, medicine, and business administration from Smith College, University of California (Berkeley), George Washington School of Medicine, and Benedictine University, respectively. Holder of academic appointments at three universities, Margaret enjoys history, writing and publishing, gardening, and dachshunds. Dennis S. O'Leary, M.D. is President Emeritus of The Joint Commission, the leading U.S. health care accrediting body. A native of Kansas City, he holds degrees in social relations and medicine from Harvard College and Cornell University Medical College, respectively. He is the nephew of the hero of this book and upon the death of the latter, followed in his hallowed physician footsteps. Recipient of multiple honors and awards, Dennis enjoys health policy, management, crossword puzzles, and dachshunds.
