About the Book

Investing 1.0.1 with Purpose is the little book that can make a big difference in your financial future. Funding a 401(k) and IRAs is the single most important thing you can do to prepare for retirement. However, it will not be enough. Around 1993, Crosby, Stills & Nash—the vocal folk, rock group—produced a hit song called “Teach Your Children,” which was about life, the power of influence, and moral behavior. They highlighted the need for having acceptable standards of conduct known as a code of the road. “You who are on the road must have a code that you can live by / And so become yourself / Because the past is just a goodbye. / Teach your children well.” In your career and in your day-to-day living activities, we all need a code of the road. This book offers new perspectives and ideas about investing for purpose to build wealth for the future. This book offers a series of coaching tips, specific examples, and a code of the road to help you achieve your long-term financial goals. I hope you will make Investing 1.0.1 with Purpose your code of the road in taking the mystery out of investing. To save is not enough! The management of money may be as important as the earning of it. Learn to control your financial future through proven money-management techniques and avoid being controlled by life’s constantly changing circumstances. It is time to put your money where your mouth is if you believe in the future, long-term growth of the economy in the USA as well as globally. The stock market is one of the best ways to participate in this future growth. Future rates of return are unpredictable, but aging is guaranteed. Humans are the only species that can shape our own financial future. Get started by putting together a plan for the future you want. Taking action to control your future through wealth building is so much more rewarding than being controlled by life’s rise and fall of unrelated events. Our best years are still ahead of us!

About the Author

I have become a personal advocate for helping those who want to help themselves face the retirement challenge, head on. We share a common goal. I receive personal satisfaction by helping others improve their financial future. You take-away information and ideas that have the potential to dramatically improve your long-term financial security. This results in a symbiotic relationship with each of us helping the other to achieve a personal goal. I hope this book will help everyday investors who want to help themselves. I am a retired commercial banker with more than 40 years experience of working with small business owners and their families, helping them to achieve their financial objectives. I have seen many success stories over these four plus decades of hands on involvement but I have also witnessed dismal failures along the way. What separates the successes from the failures? I share some of those insights within this book. I have no known conflicts of interest in writing this book and promoting the investment strategies outlined within this publication. I do not receive any form of compensation in the form of commissions or fees from any broker, dealer, sales organization or any other source as a result of my recommendations. I am not a securities salesperson nor am I an insurance agent. I am a private citizen who has learned from his personal investment mistakes. I have worked the past 40 years to create an investment portfolio that delivers a comfortable retirement lifestyle for my family. By sharing these successes with you, I can help you avoid the mistakes that others and I have made on the road to wealth building. I have owned two manufacturing/assembly companies in the office lighting and computer accessory markets. I know the challenges of meeting a payroll every week. I founded an alternative investment fund after retiring from banking with a focus on lending to small businesses and their owner families. I am the managing partner of this fund. I work on a referral basis only, “delivering financial solutions” to our clients. I am a published author having written two books on retirement planning. The two books are Put Time on Your Side and Time to Catch Up. Both are available from Amazon.com in either paperback or eBooks format. I have an undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University of Missouri, with an emphasis in finance. I served more than 4 years on active duty in the US Army, as a Finance Officer and attained the rank of Captain by the time of my honorable discharge. My wife and I have three grown children of whom we are very proud. We also have four grandchildren. We reside in Overland Park, Kansas. A special “Thank You” and heartfelt appreciation goes to my beloved wife, Coline, who has tirelessly remained patient and supportive through countless hours, days and activities related to the writing of this book. I could not have completed Investing 1.0.1 with Purpose without her encouragement and emotional understanding. Together, we enjoy the measured pace of living with what retirement has to offer. We are following the advice in this book and enjoying our retirement years. To live in Kansas is to live in what seems like another time. Traditions remain of knowing our neighbors; sitting on the front porch listening to the rhythm of the rain; working in our flower garden; and enjoying time together and a glass of wine with family and friends. This is a slower pace and one of the most rewarding. Retirement is comfortable and a pleasant phase of our life. You can enjoy a similar outcome.
