On March 25, 2014, the WHO announced that Ministry of Health in Guinea had reported EVD outbreak of 86 suspected cases that included 59 deaths. Index EVD case was believed by researchers to have started in Meliandou village in Guéckédou Prefecture, Guinea in December 2013. EVD spread rapidly in West Africa than when it was first noticed in East Africa.Ebola is a medico-cultural disease. The Ebola outbreaks in West Africa attests to the medico-cultural junction that exists between the medical management, prevention, control, and prognosis and cultural practices that spread the disease and hinder prompt containment.

About the Author
Dr. Felix I. Ikuomola, born in Ugbo, Nigeria, earned his medical degree at O. A. U., Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and is a candidate for two other advanced degrees in clinical research (UH) and surgical sciences (RCSEd/Edin). Named Liberia’s doctor of the year in 2006, he has practiced medicine and surgery in Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and the Gambia.
