As he attempts to make the round-trip driving journey from the coast of California to a national park in Texas within his meager seven-day time allotment, DiPietro strives to reconcile his promising past with his uncertain future and dispel the fears which gnaw at his brain.

Aging, rueful of his diminishing prowess, he strikes up a bold friendship with a bizarre drifter whose lifestyle holds the key to a freedom he has lost.
