Turning "What If?" into "What's Next?"

Of all the words she’s written, Camille Calhoun didn’t want the words “what if?” to define her work as a writer.

Her Path to iUniverse

A nurse for more than 20 years and co-owner of a bed and breakfast with her husband, Camille had a manuscript called Montezuma Red written. But rather than publishing it, she left the manuscript in a bag under her desk, unseen by anyone but her. Her family encouraged her to pursue self-publishing, but she hesitated to take the plunge.

When a friend told her own publishing experience with iUniverse, Camille decided to give it a try. She spoke with a book representative, who quickly eased her concerns and even echoed the words of her son, who had long advocated for her to publish.

So Camille pulled that draft out and got started. She found iUniverse to be an enthusiastic partner who continually kept the process moving.

“With iUniverse, you’re not waiting on the next step,” she said, “They’re keeping you informed. They never leave you hanging. They’re moving you along through the process. iUniverse kept me going.”

Once she received her first copy of Montezuma Red, her tale of an elderly German woman looking back on her role in (and ultimate rejection of) Nazi Germany, she knew she made the right decision.

Montezuma Red was the culmination of Camille’s lifelong goal of becoming a published writer, and by taking action to get it published with iUniverse, she knows she won’t be haunted by those two words.

Author Camille Calhoun shares how she chose iUniverse for Montezuma Red.

“Get it out of the drawer. There’s nothing to lose,” she said. “What you have to lose is if you don’t get it out there and see what can happen.”
