Have you ever finished reading a book and thought to yourself, I could have written that! We all have experiences, stories, and ideas that others likely want to read about. Besides, what could be more validating than being able to point to a printed work with your name on the cover?
I've had a pretty interesting life. Once, my brother and I derailed a train. Then there was the time I crashed during a mountain bike race and had to finish practically naked. Well, you get the idea.
I've had dozens of wacky life experiences, so I decided to turn them into a book of stories and poems titled 100 Percent True. Then I went directly to iUniverse.
Nope, I didn't even try to publish traditionally. I was told traditional publishers didn't like to take risks on new authors, that they only wanted ësure things.'
I had previously looked at several print-on-demand publishers, and I didn't like any of them. Then one day, a famous author who's also a customer at my deli—oh, yeah, that's my day job—told me about iUniverse.
She told me that iUniverse was the best self-publishing company. They have excellent editorial and marketing tools, they let you retain the rights to your book, and they pay decent royalties.
So I went ahead and published with iUniverse, and I've been tremendously pleased. Right now, I'm writing a sequel to 100 Percent True, and I've already sold the screen rights to a novel I'm working on.
iUniverse has allowed me to fulfill my dreams and has given me the tools to compete with the big boys. And that's absolutely, positively 100 percent true!
