Kirkus Discoveries Book Review
Getting a book review is perhaps one of the most challenging tasks for any newly published author. A positive book review from a respected publication can lend a great deal of credibility to a new title.
iUniverse has teamed up with Kirkus Discoveries, a paid review service from the editors of Kirkus Reviews, to streamline the review process for our authors. Our Kirkus Discoveries Book Review service gives you the opportunity to have your title reviewed by one of the most prominent and respected book review publications in the publishing industry.
Kirkus Discoveries posts these reviews to the Discoveries Web site. The reviews are also eligible for inclusion in the Kirkus Discoveries monthly eNewsletter, which highlights the best submissions to the program at no extra cost. The eNewsletter goes to a targeted base of subscribers, including agents, editors and librarians.

Process:
Step 1: Purchase the service for $399 with your publishing package or as an optional upgrade via your myUniverse account.
Step 2: iUniverse will send two copies of your finished book to Kirkus. (The fee for the books is included in the $399 fee.)
Step 3: Within seven to nine weeks, you'll receive an e-mail from Kirkus that includes your professional review in PDF format.
Step 4: Within seven business days after receiving your review, e-mail and let Kirkus know if you would not like to have your review posted on the Discoveries Web site.
(Please note: If you do not notify Kirkus either way, your review will be posted automatically.)
Step 5: Watch for an e-mail from iUniverse informing you of your options to include an excerpt from your review:
- On your book's Web page within the iUniverse online bookstore
- In the electronic data that we supply to all other online retailers, including Barnes & Noble.com (www.bn.com) and Amazon.com
Step 6: Respond to the e-mail from iUniverse within 10 business days and let us know if you would like to have an excerpt from your Kirkus Discoveries review included in our online bookstore and the electronic data we supply to other online retailers. If you choose to include an excerpt, a member of the iUniverse copywriting team will select a positive quote from your review, and it will be automatically included in your book's data.
That's all there is to it! If you receive a positive review, be sure to include a copy of it in your press kit and post it on your own Web site to maximize its exposure.
