Does iUniverse submit my book cover and description to online book retailers?

Yes. After your book has been published, iUniverse will submit your book cover and book description to multiple online retailers, including Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, Booksamillion.com and Walmart.com (with the latter, placement is not guaranteed if your book does not meet Walmart's family-oriented criteria).

As these online retailers are independent of iUniverse, we cannot provide an exact time frame for when your book information will appear on their sites. However, we can estimate a period of six to eight weeks.

Why do the lead times for book availability vary at online booksellers?

Most online retailers calculate availability messages based on the physical inventory of a book, either in their own warehouses or at the warehouse of a distributor or wholesaler.

All iUniverse books are printed on demand. Barnes & Noble.com and Amazon.com do not maintain an inventory of our titles.

The availability message that online retailers display for a title is based upon information automatically fed from book wholesalers. If there is stock in a wholesale warehouse, online retailers will show a short delivery time, usually two to three days. When there isn't a physical copy of a book on the shelf at a wholesaler, the delivery time will be longer, or may show as being unavailable. This will happen infrequently and generally changes within a few days. As inventory at book wholesalers change based on sales, availability messages may change.

Keep in mind that availability messages at online retailers indicate "worst case scenarios." In order to ensure these businesses meet customer expectations, they tend to under-promise and over-deliver.

Online retailers are aware that all iUniverse titles are printed on demand, and even if a physical copy of one of our titles is not on the shelf, it is still available. While they are aware of this fact, they have not yet made the changes to their database systems to show a more realistic lead-time message for print on demand books. We continue to talk with them about this.

How are books chosen to be "featured" in the iUniverse online bookstore?

Bestsellers are just that: books that have demonstrated high unit sales direct from iUniverse during the previous week or couple of weeks.

New Releases features are titles that have been published since the previous update. These are the newest of our titles in distribution.

Staff Recommends selections are based on the personal tastes of the iUniverse staff.

Author Spotlight features are based on books and authors that have demonstrated significant and quantifiable success in the marketplace.

iUniverse makes the final decision on all featured titles. Our goal is to feature a broad cross section of what we publish. There is never a guarantee that a specific title will be selected as a feature.
