They carefully put a saddle on him while he stood their stiff legged and wide-eyed with both nostrils flared. Boots said, “You lucky son of a gun JoJo; your gonna get to rodeo.” JoJo, looking just a bit apprehensive, put a foot in the stirrup and swung his leg over; the rodeo was on. JoJo wasn’t quite ready and, at the first jump, he was thrown over the big sorrel’s head landing belly first in some ‘horse puddin’; JoJo was a mess! Back up he went; with puddin’ all over his shirt. Every time Preacher let the sorrel’s head loose, he would explode. Seven jumps and JoJo was on the ground again. The horse was so strong; he was pitching JoJo ten feet in the air. Boots helped pick JoJo up and mused, “You want me to ride ‘im for you?” “Hell no,” shouted JoJo, “I’ll ride ‘im if it kills me.” Boots laughed and snorted, “I don’t blame I’m, I’d buck you off too; I wouldn’t want something as smelly as you on my back either.” “Hold ‘im Preacher, let me back on ‘im,” said JoJo, then added defiantly, “watch this Boots.” Six jumps and JoJo went flying again. Laughlin came down from the ranch house to watch the fun. When he got there he said, “JoJo, haven’t they told you to keep his head up?” JoJo replied, “Hell, I’ve tried; he’s too strong.” Then he remounted the sorrel and growled, “One more time boys, the Captain’s here, can’t let him down.” Explosion time again as the sorrel bucked hard. Once he fell to the ground and JoJo stayed on while he got back up. Around the corral they went, dirt flying from his feet, slobber from his mouth, and that was just JoJo; you should’ve seen the horse. Finally the big sorrel slowed to a walk, it was over. JoJo had himself a horse.

About the Book
In this sequel to Ride the Ranger Winds, the Rangers face death as they try to keep order in an increasingly lawless Texas. Three of the Rangers—Boots, Jerry Jack and JoJo—arrive in Laredo to settle a range war. A rancher with precious water is fencing off his land, fueling a war that is about to get bloody. About the Author
E. Richard Womack, a native of Bowie, Texas, grew up listening to his great-grandfather tell tales about cowboys. He is also the author of Ride the Ranger Winds and is working on the third book in the Ranger Winds series. He lives on a small South Texas ranch in Fowlerton.
