About the Book

This book is a collection of contemporary and abstract poetry dealing with the life and daily happenings through the fifties. People, places, attitudes and New York City nostalgia are the subjects of this collection of poetry. The 50's in New York City had a profound impact on the life of Michael A. J. Sardo. Writing about this era wasn't too hard to pen as it was an exciting time, a sad time, and a thought-provoking time in this poet's life.

The sounds of Sardo's writings vibrate with the hustle and bustle of New York City. The author expresses in verse the often overlooked minor details of the big city. He sees the beauty in trivial occurrences. He hears the musical rhythms in the sounds of New York City. From Greenwich Village, he travels north toward the streets to mid-town, stopping along the way to do his shopping for ideas. Daytime and nighttime glamour of the greatest city in the world is what this contemporary poet is creating with his paper and pen canvas. His legal pads of various colors depicting his different moods are the medium of his excursions into the world of abstract, and sometimes surrealistic, poetry. It is the hope of Michael A. J. Sardo that New York City alive and vibrant, will take over this work of contemporary poetry.

Many of the poems in this book represent approaches to configurations of sounds. Often times in the abstract poetry of this book, definitions of words become a minor point as compared to their sounds patterns.

About the Author

Living in Brooklyn the major part of his life, Michael A. J. Sardo relives through his contemporary and abstract poetry the times he spent in Manhattan. With his pen, legal pad and memory, he goes back to the good old days.Everything cost less, sounded great and looked even greater. Sardo likes writing about Manhattan as though it were yesterday when he walked the streets with friends and by himself.

Sardo?s poetry is a reminder of things gone by, that still are alive and doing well in his mind. This poet holds in his hand a large capsule that he is about to break open for us, dumping out the ingredients of a great city, ready for inspection, re-examination and evaluation.

Michael Sardo falls in love again with the greatest city in the world, the apple that is the Big Apple, the melting pot of the world, full of different nationalities, races, colors, and most of all, different minds. The lives of New Yorkers always touch the heart and soul of Michael A. J. Sardo.
