Golf Fore Ever

One of the reasons I decided to write this manual is to help the new golfer get started “The Right Way” There is much more to golf than meets the eye. When I started playing I was lucky enough to have a few friends who had older brothers or dads who played and were willing to take me out with them so I learned most of the rules of golf and golf etiquette from the onset. Etiquette is described in the dictionary as “a special code of behavior or courtesy” and a true golfer who follows the rules and wants to play the game properly, or “The Right Way”, will adhere to this special code of behavior and extend the many courtesies associated with golf to their fellow players. These are the unwritten and all too often overlooked rules of golf that I will elaborate on in another chapter.

In my opinion there are four things necessary to get started playing golf properly. First and foremost, a desire to learn, second, and another obvious requirement, is that you will need golf equipment, third, you should have some basic knowledge of how to swing a club and the rules of the game and last but certainly not least is learning “Golf Etiquette”. As you will note I will keep emphasizing the “Etiquette” part of the game and as you become a more experienced player it will become more apparent to you as to why.

The first of four requirements to play golf is a desire to learn, which is an obvious one and does not require elaboration at this time. The second requirement noted is equipment which I would like to address in this chapter
