About the Book

"I'm 90 years old. I want to leave behind a legacy of hope. I want to bring radical change in the curriculum and in the way schools are organized. I want to revitalize teacher education to elevate the profession's status and to bring greater financial rewards for teachers. Finally, I believe it is essential to promote democracy within the schools and within the classroom."

About the Author

Mary B. Lane grew up in Missouri. She began teaching at nineteen, and has taught infants, elementary, high school, college, graduate students, and parents, was a professor at NYU and SF State, and directed three important projects. Now an active ninety, her Our Schools: "Frontline for the Twenty-first Century" was published in 1998. She lives in San Francisco.
