Tips for Successful Blogging to Promote Your Book

Blog writing is becoming increasingly beneficial to help writers better communicate with audiences in an inexpensive way. If used effectively, blogs can help you to successfully market your self-published book. There is a lot of competition in the market, which makes it important to be creative and stand apart from everyone else. Here are a few tips to help make your blog successful:

  • Pick a topic. Adhering to your chosen topic will help to create loyal readers of your blog. Make sure that what you're writing about has clarity, but is still informative. If your writing is too complex readers will get lost in what you’re saying and eventually stop reading.
  • Make a schedule. In order to earn and keep a following of readers, it’s important to stick a schedule. Establish a schedule of days to post, as well as a rotation of the general category or topics of your posts.  Just be sure to set goals that you can honestly manage for the long haul.
  • Use keywords. In order to draw more people to your blog make sure to use related keywords that people would use when searching the Internet. Put those keywords in your title and throughout your blog post. Meaningful and interesting titles are crucial in order to get more traffic to your blog.
  • Spell check and proofread. You are a writer; grammatical errors will hurt the professionalism and credibility of your blog.  Keep in mind, that what you publish on the Internet will always be archived out there somewhere.
  • Connect with your readers. Let your readers know a little more about you in a separate “About Me” page. This will help readers understand what you’re trying to do and allow them connect with you on a more personal level.
  • Interact with readers. After each post, ask the reader what they think or let them know that you appreciate what they have to say about your writing. Feedback will not only help you as a writer, but it will let the reader know that their opinion matters and it will encourage them to keep coming back.
  • Keep readers updated. If your book has already been published, post upcoming events or book signings that you are having. This will help to keep your readers in the loop, and it will drive them to visit your blog frequently to check for new information.
  • Participate in other blogs. Leave valuable comments on blogger’s pages that are relatable to what you’re writing about. Including a link will help increase the traffic on your page if people find your comment helpful or insightful and want to learn more about you.
  • Word of mouth. In order for people to gain more awareness about your blog, put the link on your Facebook or Twitter homepages. This will generate conversation about your blog and encourage your friends to check it out.
  • Post frequently. It’s important to update as often as possible because it will help to increase your search engine ranking. Frequent posts are also important in order to keep your readers engaged. At bare minimum, you need to post at least once a week, but the more the better (as long as it’s a frequency that you can maintain consistently). Regular updates will keep readers coming back for more.
