Guerilla Marketing

Guerilla Marketing is an unconventional form of marketing that is intended to get maximum results from minimal resources. It is a great form of marketing for low budgets.

Below is an example of a technique deployed by self published author to promote his novel about a poker-playing dad:

"While attending a national book conference, I decided to play in a poker tournament at the local Casino. I brought a hardcover copy of the book with me for some free advertising at the table. When I was eliminated in 12th place I autographed the copy for the guy who beat me - and included a sketch of the hand. The guy seemed genuinely impressed. Ten minutes later I had someone track me down in the food area asking if I wrote the book and I confirmed I had. He introduced himself as an executive with one of France's largest publishers and said they had just released a poker strategy book by a renowned poker pro. His publisher was in the market for a poker-themed novel. He followed me to my rental car to get a copy of my book to read on his way back to France.  This person was not a registered exhibitor at conference and I would not likely have met him if I didn't give away the copy at the poker table. We are now communicating about possible distribution of my book in French starting this fall. For once, I was glad I didn't finish first in a poker tournament!"
