That’s why iUniverse offers an editorial evaluation that assesses whether your manuscript meets the requirements of a professional published book.
The Editorial Evaluation is performed by independent experienced publishing experts that look for the same criteria sought by agents and editors in traditional publishing houses. They assess your manuscript, answer questions like: is your general structure well organized; are your ideas clearly presented; is the grammar, punctuation, and spelling correct.
They also look for features critical to the specific type of book you’ve written. For a fiction book, they consider: is the basic premise interesting, believable, and unique; does the dialogue sound authentic; do the plot and structures sufficiently hold the reader’s interest.
If your book is non-fiction, they’ll examine if you’ve demonstrated credibility in your subject area, if the text is supported by appropriate documentation, and whether your book will appeal to a wide audience or address a particular niche.
There are a unique questions for books of poetry too: do the poem titles appropriately reflect the content of the individual poems; is the metrical scheme appropriate for the subject matter; does the poetry appeal to one or more of the senses.
After your Editorial Evaluation, you’ll receive an Editorial RX Referral, a specific recommendation for the level of editorial work your manuscript needs. You have the option to make the revisions yourself, hire your own Editorial Services Provider, or employ one of our carefully selected Editing Professionals. The choice is yours.
The RX Referral is only a suggestion, not a requirement. But, following the advice of the RX Referral is important in establishing and maintaining credibility with your readers. It’s one of the last opportunities you have to receive a professional objective opinion before you make your book available to the public.
