Jon continued on with his history, “The light house was built in 1852 and even had a role in the Civil War and was at times on either side. The town was named by General Zachary Taylor. A lot of people came through here during the California gold rush days. Several hurricanes made landfall here and the place has been destroyed and rebuilt before. In 1519, Spanish explorers documented being here.” It was impossible to sail the Texas coast without visualizing Spanish Galleons on the horizon, the first white men to ever visit and settle into this region of the planet. “There are sunken Spanish ships still being found in the Texas coastal waters to this day.”

About the Book

About the Author
Don A. Lackey earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Lamar University and a master’s degree. He holds a coast guard captain’s license and has piloted small airplanes, traveled extensively, owned a ranch, sailed his yacht along the Texas Gulf Coast, and produced music. The father of four is now retired and lives in Katy, Texas.
