About the Author

Leo McIlrath, born in Danbury, Connecticut, is a graduate of St Bonaventure University/ Christ the King Seminary, in Olean NY, where he received a BA Degree in Philosophy and a Masters of Divinity Degree in Theology. An ordained Catholic priest of 50 years, McIlrath served many churches in North Carolina as a pastor, retreat director, chaplain at Duke University and civilian chaplain to the US Marine Base at Cherry Point. Returning to Connecticut in 1976, McIlrath worked for 25-plus years as director to the Department of Elderly Services/ City of Danbury. He served as President for CASCP – The CT Association of Senior Center Personnel and was a state representative to the White House Council on Aging and was co-founder of the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality, in Danbury, comprising a soup kitchen and an emergency housing shelter, now in its 33rd year of operation. McIlrath was awarded a Nursing Home Administrator License from the State of Massachusetts in 1978, received his Master of Counseling degree from the University of Bridgeport and has a DMin (Doctor of Ministry) degree. He was a professor of Latin, Psychology and Gerontology at Western CT State University and taught Gerontology at the University of Bridgeport. He is a member of FCM - the Federation of Christian Ministries. The author is currently serving as Ecumenical and Interfaith Chaplain at the Lutheran Home of Southbury, in Connecticut, where he celebrates sacred liturgies, provides counseling and leads bible studies and discussions on a variety of topics, including several presented in this text. In the year of this writing, Pastor McIlrath lives in Sandy Hook/Newtown, CT with his wife, Dianne. They have six children and eight grandchildren.
