I know, I probably thanked my ‘lucky stars’, more times than I should have thanked, my wonderful angels, who were there for me each and every time I went ‘knocking on Heaven’s door’ where I had no recourse than to plead to them where I got to the point where I probably crossed the ‘line’ by, cursing them out, if they haven’t taken care of my simple request that I asked for after that last ‘event’ I had, to please install a doorbell for me because these damn knuckles of mine, can surely use a, rest. Having, numerous ‘events’ in numerous ways, ever since I was five years old, occur to me, is not something one should take, lightly. Now, one of those times, I spent a certain summer, a summer, one could never forget, the “summer of ‘69” (well, it wasn’t the, summer per say, it was more like, from the first week of July of ‘69 to the first week of July of ‘70) when I had, what seemed to be a culmination of assorted ‘mini-events’, that took place, on the other side of the world. I knew, before I got there I’d be trying my best to acclimate myself to this one specific word in our English language and that word was, ‘survival’. From the moment I landed in this far off place, a place that I will be referring to as, Nam or, HELL, which I’m sure you heard of as being, Vietnam, and only, knew about it, by what you saw and heard in the news, back then (unless you were there, yourself), this word, ‘survival’ kind of got kicked into action the very first moment I felt myself being, lifted off the ground, blurting out some really awful words about God as I squeezed in a few choice curse words of my own as I was thrown thru the air. How would you like to join me on an unbelievable ride?
Let us take a ride on a mystical wooden kiddie roller coaster as we travel thru my ‘dash’ (you know, that line that separates, the date you were born and the date that says you, died) to, re-live my experiences, when I went ‘knocking on Heaven’s door’, starting at the early age of five years old, having to ‘survive’ my first automobile accident. At sixteen, I drowned but was miraculously saved. Four years later I was in Vietnam, then had two major automobile accidents – one before I was there in the WTC on the ‘93 bombing, then another before I was there on ‘9/11’. After ten months at Ground Zero, I ended up with nineteen health ailments, one being bladder cancer.
This will probably have you feel like you’ve been pushed back into that seat you’re in and have you look to see if you’re safely secured, as we go about feeling the remainder of those climbs, drops, curves and hoops with me. While we’re still on this journey, I will tell you about some of these most amazing ‘surprising coincidences’ that had occurred to me (ones that I could never imagine, happening) and all because of this sudden change in me, that came about, hours later on September 11, 2001.

This is ‘Charlie K.’s first book, whose resilience and perseverance to ‘carry on’ having to experience numerous ‘events’ in his life, hopes to be an inspiration for people with similar, backgrounds. Charlie’s ‘Letters to the Editor’ of the local NYC, newspapers, were printed over the years stating his opinion, on numerous subjects. He is married, has a daughter, and resides on Long Island.
