Partitioning
A partitioning strategy that is based on natural business activity and persists throughout the lifecycle provides a strong foundation for agility in system development and maintenance. An Event Thread is born with each partition.
System Partitioning
The objective of system partitioning is to divide both the conceptual and physical systems into ‘chunks’. Partitioning of the proposed system space is a major outcome of the early conceptual phase. It is pervasive; it affects most aspects of the subsequent system development process. The strategy chosen for this effort has consequences that persist throughout the development lifecycle. Partitioning allows the development teams to work on smaller, cohesive pieces of the proposed system. The partitions simplify project, change, and risk management tasks since each partition is a virtual subsystem to be managed separately.
The partitioning scheme should produce independent subsystems that will support subsequent lifecycle efforts. Early methodologies as well as some more recent ones decompose from the top down. These partitioning schemes can result in system components that have high coupling, that is, significant dependence upon each other.
