“I held off as long as I could,” she started hoarsely. “I discovered this matter nearly a week ago, and in consideration of your celebration I held off , but it is too serious to lay aside any longer. An upsurging number of mass murders are sweeping across the eastern Atlantic border. It began in the southern part of Africa, in the Angola territory, and therein spread throughout the remainder of southern into central Africa, where hundreds of towns and villages were burned to the ground. This holocaust has since shot northward, up through France, where the savage, widespread destruction suddenly altered into calculated murders of creative brutality and stealth. Now, in this last week, the power behind it all crossed the Channel and entered England. This phenomenon is more than just a plotted rampage. It’s supernatural. At this point in time I know it’s the last thing you’d wish to hear.” Her head fell, and she just shook it. “But it’s the captain.”
Other than Lorena’s yelp of horror, it was silent enough to hear a pin drop. Rein felt her heart sink to the pit of her stomach, and her blood ran cold. Even her ears started ringing, and all she could do was look at Traith. His anger turned to a very stunned sobriety.
“I thought I killed him,” she whispered, clutching the cross around her neck.
