About the Author
At birth I was a premature baby pronounced dead at birth. But with prayers and hope I did survive with my mother (Doretha) by my side. I was born in Welch, West Virginia. My mother a coal miners daughter lived in a three bedroom house with thirteen other kids. My mother being the oldest decide to venture out with help from my dad (Joe ). They had a car a dove to New York. They began a life in a one room apartment in the Bronx off of Wellis Avenue. When they were a little more stable they moved to Manhattan. Spanish Harlem could be rough at time, but my mom always kept food on the table. My dad always was by my side no matter what. He is a strong man. When I went off to college I started writing. A refection of my life was placed on paper. I started writing to express my deepest feelings. I had so many beautiful people in my life and I needed to convey my way of telling my life's story. So many things that I have experienced and this outlet of writing made me feel so much better. In life one is faced with many challenges and I wanted to push back. When I told my family and friend about this book they did not doubt me. They supported and encouraged me to write even more. Looking back when the first poem was written I felt a great release . Think of this book as my diary of life. My life is very complex and sometime difficult. So I poured my heart and soul into these book. Once I took all of my poetry and placed then together it felt right. Now that I'm a grown women with four children life became overwhelming. I needed to have something that was all mine.
