Rise Above I’m sorry that Your loved one died, And I don’t know what to Say to you except- Please, let me bear your pain. Allow me To sit by your side, Our hands entwined. Allow my tears To mingle with your own So that, hearts joined, Our souls’ shouts may rise Above the heavens And bring just one last, Farewell kiss To your beloved. Please, let me give you this. It’s All for the Children It’s midnight on a Christmas Eve, Only one hour away- It will be a most special day! A mother of four children small, She gave them life- She gave up all the things That made up all her dreams: She gave up all the fancy clothes, The hope for a more gracious home, And she raises them alone. Alone in silence now she sits, But there’s a smile upon her lips. As she works with love and grace, Tonight, fatigue won’t slow her pace. As she wraps her blood and sweat, Her children don’t know what they get. They will see toy trucks and cars, Action figures, candy bars, Clothes, slippers, soccer balls, And stockings hung upon the walls. Cookies left for Santa Clause. The hour’s late, she takes a pause. Most of her work provides a living, But there’s a special joy in giving On this special season, And the children are the reason. For just a second, this mother’s heart is sore- For she is sad she couldn’t give them more. But with a wealth of love these children are so blessed As not ‘til dawn will mother find some rest. And then she wakes with the first little noise- It’s all for the children, her beloved boys.

Vanessa says that life is a roller coaster, and she is sitting with her hands in the air going "A-a-a-a-a-a!"
This book is the product of that roller coaster life. It is filled with experiences and emotions that have formed the path that she walks, and she if offering her hand to you with the hope that you will walk alongside her. You will laugh, or cry, or get a warm fuzzy feeling as you find sympathy in these pages. One thing is certain: you will not find another book like this one anywhere in the market today.
About the Author
Vanessa's fourth grade teacher challenged her to write better poetry and essays. Already an avid reader, she took that challenge and ran with it. Though not previously published, she constantly works to improve her craft, and to provide poetry that is both interesting and real. Vanessa's love of the written word is profound. She claims that poetry saved her life during some very bleak experiences, and it is her greatest outlet for both her passions and her joys. She feels that the greatest joy of all will be the opportunity to share her poetry with the world. Vanessa is a resident of Vineland, New Jersey. While not college educated, she feels that the various jobs that she has held over the years has made her a complex and controversial character. Her friends have labelled her "delightfully excentric." and she hopes that this is a trait that you will enjoy in her writing. Vanessa believes in the old addage "What goes around, comes around," and plans to share the royalties she receives from this and future writing with several charities, and with her church.
