Turning a Dream into Reality and Achieving Author Success

After years of receiving her papers back with endless red markings from English Literature professors at the University of Ottawa, and between attending law school and raising a family, Julie Hockley was ready to give up creative writing.

Hockley didn’t give up, and with a little help from iUniverse, she was able to rise above these challenges to self-publish a top-selling book and build a fan base that is clamoring for the next addition in the series.

It began with a dream

Hockley’s book, Crow’s Row, was literally inspired by a dream she had one night. But it was her determination and dream of becoming an author that actually motivated her to write and publish the book. Hockley decided to self-publish with iUniverse using one of our popular publishing packages, as well as services such as Copyediting, and Author Website Standard Setup. With the help of iUniverse, Hockley turned her dream into a reality by professionally publishing Crow’s Row.

Book sales exceed expectations

After publishing Crow's Row with iUniverse in April of 2011, Hockley turned to Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter to build buzz around her book and interact with readers. Her prominent social media following helped propel Crow’s Row’s success to new heights, selling big in print and on Amazon’s Kindle. Today, Crow’s Row is one of iUniverse’s top-selling books and it has received hundreds of five-star reviews on Amazon.com.

In addition to becoming an iUniverse top-seller, Crow’s Row also received iUniverse’s Editor’s Choice designation, which is awarded only to titles that meet high editorial and professional standards.
